79. An-Naazi'aat

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرْقًۭا1

By those [angels] who extract with violence

Wan naazi 'aati gharqa

وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشْطًۭا2

And [by] those who remove with ease

Wan naa shi taati nashta

وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبْحًۭا3

And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming

Wass saabi-haati sabha

فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبْقًۭا4

And those who race each other in a race

Fass saabi qaati sabqa

فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًۭا5

And those who arrange [each] matter,

Fal mu dab-bi raati amra

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ6

On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],

Yawma tarjufur raajifa

تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ7

There will follow it the subsequent [one].

Tatba'u har raadifa

قُلُوبٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ وَاجِفَةٌ8

Hearts, that Day, will tremble,

Quloobuny-yau maaiziw-waaji-fa

أَبْصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٌۭ9

Their eyes humbled.

Absaa ruhaa khashi'ah

يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ10

They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?

Ya qoo loona a-inna lamar doo doona fil haafirah

أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمًۭا نَّخِرَةًۭ11

Even if we should be decayed bones?

Aizaa kunna 'izaa man-nakhirah

قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًۭا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌۭ12

They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."

Qaalu tilka izan karratun khaasirah.

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌۭ وَٰحِدَةٌۭ13

Indeed, it will be but one shout,

Fa inna ma hiya zajratuw-waahida

فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ14

And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.

Faizaa hum biss saahirah

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ15

Has there reached you the story of Moses? -

Hal ataaka hadeethu Musaa

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى16

When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa,

Iz nadaahu rabbuhu bil waadil-muqad dasi tuwa

ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ17

"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

Izhab ilaa fir'auna innahu taghaa.

فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ18

And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself

Faqul hal laka ilaa-an tazakka.

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ19

And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"

Wa ahdi yaka ila rabbika fatakh sha

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْءَايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ20

And he showed him the greatest sign,

Fa araahul-aayatal kubra.

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ21

But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.

Fa kazzaba wa asaa.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ22

Then he turned his back, striving.

Thumma adbara yas'aa.

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ23

And he gathered [his people] and called out

Fa hashara fanada.

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ24

And said, "I am your most exalted lord."

Faqala ana rabbu kumul-a'laa.

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ25

So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].

Fa-akha zahul laahu nakalal aakhirati wal-oola.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ26

Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah].

Inna fee zaalika la'ibratal limaiy-yaksha

ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا27

Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? Allah constructed it.

A-antum a shaddu khalqan amis samaa-u banaaha.

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا28

He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.

Raf'a sam kaha fasaw waaha

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا29

And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.

Wa aghtasha lailaha wa akhraja duhaaha.

وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ30

And after that He spread the earth.

Wal arda b'ada zaalika dahaaha.

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا31

He extracted from it its water and its pasture,

Akhraja minha maa-aha wa mar 'aaha.

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا32

And the mountains He set firmly

Wal jibala arsaaha.

مَتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ33

As provision for you and your grazing livestock.

Mataa'al lakum wali an 'aamikum.

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ34

But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -

Fa-izaa jaaa'atit taaam matul kubraa.

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ35

The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,

Yauma Yata zakkarul insaanu ma sa'aa.

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ36

And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -

Wa burrizatil-jaheemu limany-yaraa.

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ37

So as for he who transgressed

Fa ammaa man taghaa.

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا38

And preferred the life of the world,

Wa aasaral hayaatad dunyaa

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ39

Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.

Fa innal jaheema hiyal maawaa.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ40

But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,

Wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama Rabbihee wa nahan nafsa 'anil hawaa

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ41

Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.

Fa innal jannata hiyal maawaa

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا42

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?

Yas'aloonaka 'anis saa'ati ayyaana mursaahaa

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ43

In what [position] are you that you should mention it?

Feema anta min zikraahaa

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ44

To your Lord is its finality.

Ilaa Rabbika muntahaa haa

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا45

You are only a warner for those who fear it.

Innamaaa anta munziru maiy yakshaahaa

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا46

It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.

Ka annahum Yawma yarawnahaa lam yalbasooo illaa 'ashiyyatan aw duhaahaa
