54. Al-Qamar

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ1

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

Iqtarabatis Saa'atu wsan shaqqal qamar

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةًۭ يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌۭ مُّسْتَمِرٌّۭ2

And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."

Wa iny yaraw aayatany yu'ridoo wa yaqooloo sihrum mustamirr

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍۢ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ3

And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

Wa kazzaboo wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum; wa kullu amrim mustaqirr

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ4

And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -

Wa laqad jaaa'ahum minal ambaaa'i maa feehi muzdajar

حِكْمَةٌۢ بَٰلِغَةٌۭ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ5

Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

Hikmatum baalighatun famaa tughnin nuzur

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍۢ نُّكُرٍ6

So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,

Fatawalla 'anhum; yawma yad'ud daa'i ilaa shai 'in nukur

خُشَّعًا أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌۭ مُّنتَشِرٌۭ7

Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

khushsha'an absaaruhum yakrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir

مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌۭ8

Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

Muhti'eena ilad daa'i yaqoolul kafiroona haazaa yawmun 'asir

۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌۭ وَٱزْدُجِرَ9

The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohin fakazzaboo 'abdanaa wa qaaloo majnoo nunw wazdujir

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ10

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

Fada'aa Rabbahooo annee maghloobun fantasir

فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍۢ مُّنْهَمِرٍۢ11

Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

Fafatahnaaa abwaabas sa maaa'i bimaa'im munhamir

وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًۭا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍۢ قَدْ قُدِرَ12

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

Wa fajjamal arda 'uyoonan faltaqal maaa'u 'alaaa amrin qad qudir

وَحَمَلْنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍۢ وَدُسُرٍۢ13

And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

Wa hamalnaahu 'alaa zaati alwaahinw wa dusur

تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءًۭ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ14

Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

Tajree bi a'yuninaa jazaaa 'al liman kaana kufir

وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَٰهَآ ءَايَةًۭ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ15

And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqat taraknaahaad aayatan fahal mim muddakir

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ16

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ17

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mimmuddakir

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌۭ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ18

'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Kazzabat 'Aadun fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًۭا صَرْصَرًۭا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍۢ مُّسْتَمِرٍّۢ19

Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim reehan sarsaran fee Yawmi nahsim mustamirr

تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍۢ مُّنقَعِرٍۢ20

Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

Tanzi;un naasa ka anna huma'jaazu nakhlim munqa'ir

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ21

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

'Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ22

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ23

Thamud denied the warning

Kazzabat Samoodu binnuzur

فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًۭا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًۭا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍ24

And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

Faqaalooo a-basharam minnaa waahidan nattabi'uhooo innaa izal lafee dalaalinw wa su'ur

أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌۭ25

Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

'A-ulqiyaz zikru 'alaihi mim baininaa bal huwa kazzaabun ashir

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًۭا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ26

They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

Sa-ya'lamoona ghadam manil kazzaabul ashir

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةًۭ لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ27

Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.

Innaa mursilun naaqati fitnatal lahum fartaqibhum wastabir

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍۢ مُّحْتَضَرٌۭ28

And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

Wa nabbi'hum annal maaa'a qismatum bainahum kullu shirbim muhtadar

فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ29

But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].

Fanaadaw saahibahum fata'aataa fa'aqar

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ30

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ31

Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

Innaaa arsalnaa 'alaihim saihatanw waahidatan fakaano kahasheemil muhtazir

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ32

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqad yassarnal quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ33

The people of Lot denied the warning.

Kazzabat qawmu lootim binnuzur

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍۢ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٍۢ34

Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim haasiban illaaa aala Loot najjainaahum bisahar

نِّعْمَةًۭ مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ35

As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

Ni'matam min 'indinaa; kazaalika najzee man shakar

وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ36

And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

Wa laqad anzarahum batshatanaa fatamaaraw binnuzur

وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ37

And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

Wa laqad raawadoohu 'andaifee fatamasnaaa a'yunahum fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌۭ مُّسْتَقِرٌّۭ38

And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

Wa laqad sabbahahum bukratan 'azaabum mustaqirr

فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ39

So taste My punishment and warning.

Fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ40

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqad yassarnal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ41

And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

Wa laqad jaaa'a Aala Fir'awnan nuzur

كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍ42

They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

Kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa kullihaa fa akhaznaahum akhza 'azeezim muqtadir

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌۭ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ43

Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?

Akuffaarukum khairum min ulaaa'ikum am lakum baraaa'atun fiz Zubur

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌۭ مُّنتَصِرٌۭ44

Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

Am yaqooloona nahnu jamee'um muntasir

سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ45

[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].

Sa yuhzamul jam'u wa yuwalloonad dubur

بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ46

But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

Balis Saa'atu maw'iduhum was Saa'atu adhaa wa amarr

إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ وَسُعُرٍۢ47

Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.

Innal mujrimeena fee dalaalinw wa su'ur

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ48

The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."

Yawma yushaboona fin Naari'alaa wujoohimim zooqoo massa saqar

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٍۢ49

Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

Innaa kulla shai'in khalaqnaahu biqadar

وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌۭ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ50

And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.

Wa maaa amrunaaa illaa waahidatun kalamhim bilbasar

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ51

And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?

Wa laqad ahlaknaaa ashyaa'akum fahal mim muddakir

وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍۢ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ52

And everything they did is in written records.

Wa kullu shai'in fa'aloohu fiz Zubur

وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍۢ وَكَبِيرٍۢ مُّسْتَطَرٌ53

And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

Wa kullu sagheerinw wa kabeerim mustatar

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَنَهَرٍۢ54

Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa nahar

فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍۢ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ55

In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.

Fee maq'adi sidqin 'inda Maleekim Muqtadir
